Foundational research
Foundational research on the 7‑1‑7 target, led primarily by Resolve to Save Lives which first conceptualized and piloted the target, focused on answering critical questions.
Why establish 7‑1‑7 as a target?
A Lancet study authored by Resolve to Save Lives establishes the rationale for using timeliness metrics to improve outbreak response systems.
Does speed actually save lives?
A BMJ Global Health study provides the first statistical evidence that faster detection leads to fewer cases, fewer deaths, and shorter outbreaks.
How did countries perform in the 7‑1‑7 pilots?
A Lancet Global Health study documents 7‑1‑7 performance across 41 outbreaks in five pilot countries, revealing that while 54% met the detection target and 71% the notification target, early response remains the biggest challenge––only 49% met the early response target, resulting in just one in four outbreaks achieving the full 7‑1‑7 target.
Operational research
With funding from Wellcome Trust, we have supported 11 operational research teams to better understand the impact of the 7‑1‑7 target and explore new use cases.
What does it take to adopt 7‑1‑7?
A review takes stock of the achievements, enablers and barriers to the successful adoption and use of the 7-1-7 target from the perspective of implementers.
How are they performing against the target?
Research teams in Cambodia, Liberia, South Sudan, Thailand and Zambia evaluated the adoption and use of the 7‑1‑7 target and identified bottlenecks and enablers for achieving the target in their respective countries. Coming soon: Read an overview of their performance.
Is investing in the 7‑1‑7 target worth the cost?
A modeling study from Uganda found that meeting the target substantially reduced cases, deaths, and costs across different disease types, providing compelling economic evidence for investments in rapid detection, notification, and response systems.
