How to use the dashboard
Purpose
The dashboard allows you to explore 7-1-7 timeliness performance across outbreak types, WHO regions, and time periods—and to identify the bottlenecks that most commonly slow detection, notification, and response.
Use it to spot trends, inform decisions, and make the case for investments in stronger outbreak preparedness and response systems.
Key definitions
- Event: A manifestation of disease or an occurrence that creates a potential for disease
- Event category: A broad classification used to group events based on shared transmission patterns, epidemiological characteristics, or prevention approaches. Some events may belong to more than one category.
- Event type: A specific label used to classify an event based on its disease or nature—for example, cholera, Ebola, or foodborne illness.
- Period: Refers to the time range covered by the dashboard, based on the date of event emergence.

Consistent across all pages. Displays the number of events, the three stage performance percentages, and the proportion meeting the full 7-1-7 target. Updates automatically with filters.
Bottom left average days gauge (tabs 1 and 5)
Show average days for detection, notification, and response, with the black marker indicating the 7-1-7 target.
Bottom left top 7-1-7 bottlenecks (tabs 2, 3 and 4)
Displays the most frequently reported bottlenecks identified for detection, notification, and response based on the currently selected dashboard filters. The number in brackets indicates the frequency of events in which the bottleneck was reported.
Interpretation tips
- Hover over any chart element to view exact values and underlying counts.
- The dashboard reflects events with a documented emergence date in the selected period. Years with no bars in the annual chart indicate no events met the filter, not necessarily zero outbreaks.
About the data
This dashboard draws on data generously and voluntarily contributed by more than 30 partner countries in support of our shared mission: building the global evidence base for faster, more accountable outbreak detection and response.
All data has been anonymized. No country-specific data is ever displayed or shared by the 7-1-7 Alliance without permission from the countries who own these data. We are committed to protecting the autonomy of contributing countries and handling all data with the utmost care.
